PhatWare Releases Penquills 2.0 handwriting recognition text input system for iPhones

The advanced handwriting recognition custom keyboard for iPhones, which combines single character and whole words recognition, now supports 6 languages: English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian.

San Francisco, CA - July 01, 2015 - PhatWare Corporation, a leading professional software and application developer, announces the immediate availability of PhatPad 4.0 for iPad. PhatPad 4.0 is a note-taking and collaboration app featuring PhatWare's latest handwriting recognition technology. PhatPad 4.0 has been redesigned for iOS 8 and adds many new features, including support for the latest Bluetooth stylus, and an improved handwriting recognition experience including handwritten text search, and integration with Moxtra power messaging technology, which allows users to share the PhatPad screen, voice, and chat in the real time.

Using Penquills is very easy. Just enable Penquills custom keyboard in iPhone Settings, and switch to it by touching the Globe button when the default keyboard is shown. To use the single character recognition mode, hold iPhone vertically. In this mode, the custom keyboard view is divided in 3 areas – allowing users to write alpha characters in the left pane, punctuation signs in the middle, and numbers in the right pane. Users can write single or multi-stroke characters and symbols, one at the time, while a quick popup view presents alternative recognition results for each character. Characters can be written in one or more strokes and a user can adjust a short timeout for multi-stroke characters. The autocomplete word list is updated as characters are written, which further improves input speed.

When iPhone is held horizontally, Penquills switches to the free-style "natural" handwriting recognition mode. In this mode, the input method area contains a single panel where users can write one ore more words using their normal handwriting style. While a user writes, different suggestions for autocompleted words are presented dynamically above the handwriting area and the expected result can be selected the even before a word is finished.

Penquills automatically learns as it is being used, improving recognition quality over time and updating the word autocomplete lists. The app also includes a simple notetaker app that is perfect for configuring and testing handwriting recognition settings. It even supports sharing notes with multiple devices via iCloud.

Penquills Availability and Pricing

Penquills 2.0 is available via the iTunes App Store at a reduced price of only $1.99, after July 15, 2015 the price will revert to the suggested price of $4.99. The price includes handwriting recognition in all supported languages. For more information about PhatPad, visit PhatWare's web site at
