PhatWare's PenOffice 3.1 offers markup for OpenOffice.org documents
The updated version of advanced pen-based collaboration software for Microsoft Windows now offers markup support for OpenOffice.org documents.
Mountain View, CA, January 27, 2009 - PhatWare Corp., a leading provider of software products and professional services for mobile and desktop computers, announces today the availability of PenOffice 3.1, advanced collaboration and handwriting recognition software for Microsoft Windows-based computers and Tablet PCs. The new version of the software offers markup support for OpenOffice.org documents.
PenOffice has found wide acceptance worldwide among OEMs and end-users due to its highly accurate handwriting recognition, easy-to-use user interface, and extensive set of pen-based collaboration features. In addition to a wide range of pen-based collaboration features, the application recognizes handwriting in Dutch, English, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Swedish, and Spanish, and is designed for use with Windows-based Desktop, Portable, Tablet, and Ultra Mobile PCs. In addition to Microsoft Office markup feature, the new version of PenOffice now incorporates support for OpenOffice.org 3.0 or later documents. The software allows users to add handwritten notes and annotations to OpenOffice.org Writer, Calc, Impress, and Draw documents.
"Since introduction of PenOffice 3.0 in October last year, we have received many requests from PenOffice users to implement markup support for OpenOffice.org documents," said Stan Miasnikov, president of PhatWare Corp. "We are thrilled to offer this feature in the updated version of PenOffice, announced today."
Using PenOffice markup mode with OpenOffice.org applications is simple: launch the supported OpenOffice.org application, choose the markup mode from the PenOffice toolbar; then draw or write on the OpenOffice.org document's window. When you are done writing, after a short timeout, the digital ink will be embedded into the OpenOffice.org document.
"PenOffice is an interesting addition to OpenOffice.org, enabling users of graphical tablets or tablet PCs to do direct annotations in their documents," said Florian Effengerger, Marketing project Co-Lead, OpenOffice.org. "You can easily add drawings or corrections to your files, and it also provides handwriting recognition. PenOffice shows how easy it is to extend OpenOffice.org with new features that enhance the users experience even more."
