PhatWare's CalliGrapher Wins in Handwriting Recognition Category for Second Straight Year
LOS ALTOS, CA - November 3, 2003 - For the third year in a row, PhatWare Corporation, a leading provider of software products and professional services for mobile and desktop computers, has won Best of Category honors in Pocket PC Magazine's Best Software Awards 2003 competition. PhatWare's HPC Notes has won in the "Utilities-Notes" category, while the company's CalliGrapher handwriting recognition software took top honors in the "Utilities-Handwriting" segment.
This is the third year for the Pocket PC Magazine Best Software Awards, meaning that PhatWare is three-for-three in product recognition from one of the mobile computing industry's most respected publications.
"These awards are a wonderful affirmation of the quality and efficiency of PhatWare productivity software by some of the most knowledgeable people in the business," said Stan Miasnikov, President of PhatWare Corporation. "What's specially gratifying is the consistency with which our applications have been recognized, underscoring our efforts to continually refine and improve our products."
"Over 1,600 software titles were considered for awards this year, far and away a record for this competition," said Hal Goldstein, Executive Editor and Publisher of Pocket PC Magazine. "These 1,600 products, and the hundreds of companies producing them, were vying for top honors in just 94 categories. PhatWare's CalliGrapher and HPC Notes, as winners in the Handwriting and Notes categories respectively, are indicative of the excellence that is available in Pocket PC software today."
CalliGrapher is one of the most popular handwriting recognition products on the market today. The application analyzes pen strokes written in any application window, then converts those pen strokes into text and sends the recognized text to the target application. In addition to immediate recognition of words found in its integrated dictionary, CalliGrapher uses advanced fuzzy logic and neural net techniques to recognize arbitrary letters and numbers, whether cursive, print, or mixed.
HPC Notes Professional Edition enables users to create personal notes on-the-fly, then organize them by type, subject, creation and modification date. Email, document security, a search feature, and integration with CalliGrapher's Scratchpad improve user productivity, while quick access to a Contacts Database provides instant email addresses and other contact information.
Both PhatWare CalliGrapher and HPC Notes Professional Edition have been tested and certified with the Designed for Windows Mobile logo.
CalliGrapher was one of four products considered in the "Utilities-Handwriting" segment of the Best Software 2003 awards, while HPC Notes was one of eight titles competing in the "Utilities-Notes" category. For a complete list of categories and titles, visit www.PocketPCmag.com/Awards.
